Eloaћ are a rock/metal musical project based in the Netherlands and first formed in 1993 by Elmar C. Fuchs. They released their latest album ‘Proud to Love You’ earlier this year was released in 2019. The fourteen songs on this album were inspired by the different emotions around romantic love from ecstasy to agony, from serenity to heartache. The founder and frontman Elmar spoke to us recently about the new album and their future plans check it out!!

What got you into making music?

I started with piano lessons in my early childhood, taught myself acoustic guitar and tin whistle, and took classical singing lessons in my youth. As far as I can remember, music has always been a natural part of my life. I wrote my first pieces on the piano when I was ten years old, and started a school band as a teenager. Later on I took church organ lessons.

Who inspired you to make music?

Nobody, really. It was just natural for me to do it, and my parents – although they are not into music – fostered my passion and allowed me to pursue this interest.

What is your creative process?

The creative process starts with me picking up the guitar and playing something. Every now and then, all of a sudden, I play something that “feels right” – I have no better words to describe that – and then I quickly take pen and paper and start writing down lyrics (which normally accompany the music naturally) to what I play and sing them.

Then I rehearse it until neither lyrics, the melody nor the chords/riffs or licks change anymore – and then the “unplugged” version of the song is finished. This version I then present to the band and discuss with them how to develop it into a full-band version, thus which kind of drums/percussion would fit, additional voices, bass line, e-guitar parts, saxophone, etc. Afterwards, we put it all together until everybody likes it as a whole – and the song is finished.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?

It would be great to work together with the Dutch artist Herman van Veen on one or two tracks. He is a fantastic musician, and I have been a fan since my childhood.

What does your band name mean?

ELOAĦ is adapted from the Hebrew word eloaћ, which can loosely be translated (next to other interpretations) to “coming from above” or “comes from above” or simply coming from the spiritual world. The Ħ (actually ħ) was inspired by the reduced Planck constant, a fundamental physical constant that connects energy, mass and frequency.

What is your favourite song to perform?

At the moment, I personally love to play “Caterpillar” from our latest album ‘Proud to Love You.’

What are you working on right now?

We are at the moment recording a heavy rock/metal album which we would like to release in 2024. After that, we will put together a live set and see if/where we can live. Further on the horizon, I have already a number of tracks in mind for an album afterwards, this time with hymns and gospels.
